General admission tickets for the highly anticipated Obama Presidential Center go on sale starting Wednesday.
The Obama Presidential Center, 6001 S. Stony Island Ave., opens to the public on June 19. An invitation-only, pre‑opening ceremony will be held June 18, and will be livestreamed.
Tickets to the museum are expected to be in high demand once they go on sale starting Wednesday at 9 a.m., according to a Tuesday news release. Weekend and summer dates are expected to sell out quickly and guests are recommended to have alternative dates and times in mind in case their first choice is not available.
General admission tickets to the museum for Illinois residents are $26 for visitors 12 and older and $15 for children between 3 and 11. Tickets for non-Illinois residents are $30 for those 12 and older and $23 for children between ages 3 and 11. Admission is free for children 2 and under. Guests can purchase up to nine tickets, according to a news release.
Every Tuesday, the museum is free for Illinois residents.
Free admission is also available to pre-K through 12th grade educators in Illinois, active-duty military, veterans and Chicago first responders, and those with an EBT or WIC card.
All entry to the museum is timed-ticketed, and visitors are strongly encouraged to reserve tickets online in advance, according to the center. Visitors are suggested to allot at least two hours for their visit to the museum.
The Obama Presidential Center includes exhibits across four floors, a full-size replica of President Obama’s Oval Office and panoramic views of the city via the Sky Room.
Tickets are required to visit the museum, but the center’s broader campus in Jackson Park is free and open to the public, including a playground, a branch of the Chicago Public Library, gardens, walking trails and art installations.
The center will host a free, open-house style weekend across its campus June 20-21, featuring live performances, family-friendly activities, food, art and storytelling. More details will be announced later, according to the center.
