Week in Review: Johnson’s Latest Budget Pitch; Embattled CPS Chief Offered Buyout

A new budget pitch from Mayor Brandon Johnson.

Chicago’s self-styled “collaborator in chief” says he’s “going to continue to work through this process to present a budget that continues to invest.”

There’s also a property tax hike — though it is reduced. But will enough members of the City Council get on board?

And Chicago Public Schools and the Chicago Teachers Union are now negotiating seven days a week. That’s as the Board of Education works to force district CEO Pedro Martinez from his post.

And jurors hear undercover recordings in former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan’s corruption trial, with prosecutors saying they show the inner workings of an alleged criminal enterprise.
