Week in Review: Presidential Race Deadlocked; Opening Statements in the Madigan Trial
With just over a week to go, the race for president of the United States is deadlocked and former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris aren’t holding back.
Trump says America is a “dumping ground” for immigrants and “like a garbage can for the world.”
Meanwhile, Harris echoes the statements of former Trump staffers calling the former president a “fascist” and “increasingly unhinged and unstable.”
Beyond the election, it’s high stakes as well for Illinois’ formerly most powerful politician — on trial for corruption.
Meanwhile, a new Chicago School Board meets for the first time and signals its alignment with the mayor, with new board President Rev. Mitchell Johnson saying, “This is a moment in time that we cannot afford to squander.”
And Chicago slowly moves to lower the citywide speed limit.
