Labor Day weekend marks the unofficial end of summer and the official end of the Chicago Park District’s outdoor swim season.
In addition to the city’s 22 beaches, roughly a dozen outdoor pools will be open through Labor Day, Sept. 2, for one last hurrah.
Beach swimming hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., when lifeguards are on duty. Click here for pool schedules.
At 7 p.m. Monday, lifeguards will post red “no swimming” flags on beaches, which will remain in place until Memorial Day weekend 2025.
People should be prepared for beaches to close early due to hazardous water conditions. The National Weather Service on Friday afternoon warned of “potentially deadly swimming conditions” Sunday into Monday with waves up to 4 to 8 feet tall and life-threatening currents.
