17-Year-Old Among 5 Killed in Weekend Shootings Across Chicago: Police

Thirty people were shot, five of them fatally, in 26 separate shootings between 6 p.m. Friday and 11:59 p.m. Sunday, according to Chicago Police Department data.

A 17-year-old boy was among the five people killed by gun violence.

The Chicago Fire Department responded to a call Saturday night at approximately 9:20 p.m. in the 6700 block of South Loomis Street where the teen and a 16-year-old male were shot on a porch by an unidentified person. The 17-year-old, who was wounded in the stomach and back, was taken to the University of Chicago hospital, where he died. The 16-year-old was shot in the chest and also taken to University of Chicago hospital in good condition.

Also on Saturday:

Shortly after midnight, a 28-year-old man was shot multiple times while on the sidewalk in the 4500 block of South Champlain Avenue. He was taken to the University of Chicago hospital in critical condition and later died.

Three people were shot at approximately 4:30 a.m. in the 4700 block of West Polk Street, including a 53-year-old man who was wounded in the abdomen and later died at Mount Sinai Hospital. A second victim, a 41-year-old woman, was shot in the ankle and is in good condition at Mount Sinai, while a third victim, a 33-year-old man, was shot in his right foot and took himself to Rush Hospital, where he is in good condition.

Saturday afternoon at approximately 2:30 p.m. a man in his 30s was shot in the neck and back by an unknown offender in the 100 block of South Lavergne Avenue. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, where he later died.

On Sunday, officers responded to a call of shots fired at 3 p.m. and found a 28-year-old man on the ground with multiple wounds in the 3900 block of West Madison Street. He died shortly after being taken to Mount Sinai Hospital. 

There were also a pair of police-involved shootings over the weekend, which are being investigated by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability. The officers involved will be placed on routine administrative duties for a minimum of 30 days.

Early Friday evening, at approximately 5:30 p.m., an officer fired at a vehicle that police were attempting to stop in connection with a homicide. No one was struck, but the vehicle came to a stop in the 1700 block of West 47th Street and the driver was taken into custody. 

On Sunday, at approximately 1:15 a.m., officers assigned to the robbery task force heard multiple shots being fired in the 1800 block of South Blue Island Avenue. They encountered armed offenders, fired their weapons and struck one of the male offenders, who later died.
