Two teens fatally shot in the Back of the Yards neighborhood Saturday were among five people killed by gunfire over the weekend across Chicago.
According to the Chicago Police Department, 48 people were shot in 31 separate shooting incidents between Friday and Sunday evenings.
The two boys who were killed, ages 15 and 17, were shot in the 4800 block of South Winchester Avenue just after 6 p.m. Saturday. They were near the front of a residence in that area when an unknown vehicle approached and someone from within and fired shots, striking both teens. They were each hospitalized in critical condition, but later died of their injuries.
A 28-year-old man was fatally shot in the 1300 block of South Harding Avenue at around 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning. Officers responding to the scene found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A 33-year-old man was killed in the 1600 Block of North Laramie Avenue at around 8:15 p.m. Saturday. He was standing outside when an unidentified man exited a black sedan and began shooting at the victim, striking him twice. He later died at a local hospital.
A 39-year-old man was killed and three others were injured in the 2100 block of South Canal Street at around 3 a.m. Sunday. Police said a group of men were standing outside in that area when they got into a verbal altercation with a second group. That argument turned physical before someone opened fire.
The 39-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Three others were hospitalized, including a 27-year-old man who was listed in critical condition.
