At Least 3 People Killed by Gunfire Over Weekend Across Chicago: Police

A man who was fatally shot in a drive-by shooting in the Back of the Yards neighborhood Sunday was among at least three people killed by gunfire across Chicago over the weekend.

According to Chicago Police Department data, 19 people were shot in 13 separate shooting incidents between 6 p.m. Friday and 11:59 p.m. Sunday.

A 41-year-old man was killed in the 8700 block of South Loomis just after 7 p.m. Friday. He was near the sidewalk in that area when two unknown armed offenders approached and fired shots. The victim was struck multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man was killed and a woman wounded in a shooting in the 4700 block of South Paulina at around 9:30 p.m. Sunday. The pair were standing on a sidewalk when occupants inside a dark-colored sedan fired shots, striking both of them. The man, whose age was not immediately available, was struck multiple times and died at the scene. The woman, 27, was shot in the leg and hospitalized in fair condition.

A 40-year-old man was fatally shot in the 8600 block of South Cregier Avenue at around 11 p.m. Sunday. Officers responding to a gunshot detection alert discovered the victim in a nearby alley with a gunshot wound to his head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
