With social media serving as a sort of bat signal, Chicagoans were alerted to the presence of “The Batman” film crew in town over the weekend, mainly in the Loop.
Crowds gathered for their first glimpse of director Matt Reeves’ vision of Gotham City, which is shooting stunt scenes in Chicago. No sightings were reported of stars Robert Pattinson (Bruce Wayne/Batman), Zoe Kravitz (Selina Kyle/Catwoman) or Colin Farrell (Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin) but onlookers were treated to an exciting motorcycle chase scene.
Fans have also been poring over set dressing photos for Easter eggs and plot clues.
After serving as Gotham City’s stand-in during the first two installments of Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, most notably in “The Dark Knight,” Chicago was replaced by Pittsburgh for Nolan’s finale, “The Dark Knight Rises.”
Reeves is also shooting in Liverpool, England, where “The Batman” cast was spotted filming in recent weeks. Production on the movie was halted earlier in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, and Warner Brothers has pushed back the anticipated release date to 2022.
