The staffer who was diagnosed with COVID-19, who has not been identified, had close contact with the governor on Wednesday in Chicago, on Thursday in Marion and on Sunday in Marseilles, according to Pritzker's office.

Both the governor and the staffer who began experiencing symptoms and tested positive on Monday were masked throughout their interactions, according to the governor’s office.

The governor and everyone who had close contact with that staffer will self-isolate for 14 days, as recommended by state and federal public health guidelines.

This is the second time since the start of the pandemic that a confirmed case of the coronavirus in a member of the governor’s staff has forced him to self-isolate for 14 days.

No additional cases have been discovered in the 24 hours since this staffer's COVID-19 case was confirmed, officials said.

Members of the governor’s staff are tested weekly for the COVID-19, and all staff members must record a negative test before returning to the governor’s office, which was deep cleaned Monday night, officials said.

Pritzker will brief the news media remotely on the progress of the fight against the pandemic, officials said.
