The Memory Archives aims to preserve the stories of Holocaust survivors in the Chicagoland area. The joint project between 20 Northwestern and University of Hamburg students premieres at 7:00 pm Thursday at the McCormick Foundation Center. Food and drinks will be provided. Inspired by a 1545 German market, Chicago’s largest open-air market reopens this Friday at 11:00 am. Locals and tourists alike can visit to shop for iconic German items, including nutcrackers, cuckoo clocks, and beer steins. Authentic German food, drink, and sweets will also be available.
Magnificent Mile Lights Festival

Each holiday season, the BMO Harris Bank Magnificent Mile Lights Festival transforms Michigan Avenue into a holiday wonderland. This year, the lighting processional begins at 5:30 pm on Saturday, though events begin as early as 11:00 am with live musical performances and other family-friendly activities. The evening will conclude with a fantastic fireworks display over the Chicago River. There is no cost to attend.

During the two-day Chicago Toy & Game Fair (or ChiTAG for short), members of the public can meet inventors, play in tournaments, and discover interactive exhibitions. The fun runs from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm on Saturday, and from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm on Sunday. Tickets: $10 for adults, $3 for children ages 3 to 12, free for children under 3 years old.

Hungry movie-goers rejoice! “Taste what you see on the screen,” as the Food Film Fest stops over in Chicago. The fun began on Wednesday, and runs till Saturday. Tickets are still available, starting at $45. The festival ends with the Food Porn Party, presented by In the Raw.
