Don't Miss the Waterboys at the Old Town School
If you long for the days when Van Morrison and Bob Dylan were at their best, you might want to make a trip to the Old Town School of Folk Music this Thursday, October 17. Mike Scott and the Waterboys are playing two shows and -- fair warning -- one of them is already sold out.
Born in Scotland, Scott has led this folk-rock combo on and off for three decades. He's a genuine troubadour with a rock-and-roll heart and the touch of a poet. In fact, the band's new record is a celebration of the poetry of William Butler Yeats.
Sounds stuffy but An Appointment with Mr. Yeats is very approachable stuff. It's no wonder that Eddie Vedder and U2 are fans of the band.
Here's a new/old composition "Mad as the Mist and Snow," with music by Mike Scott and the Waterboys and lyrics adapted from W.B. Yeats:
This is the Waterboys' first American tour in six years, and the intimate and lovely theater at the Old Town School is one of the smallest venues they'll perform in. It's sure to be a memorable night.
