Relieving Court Delays


After appealing to the Supreme Court for help, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle hopes the system is one step closer to resolving the massive backlog of Cook County criminal cases resulting in some inmates waiting years for their cases to be adjudicated.

Illinois Supreme Court Chief Justice Thomas Kilbride has summoned a meeting with President Preckwinkle and Circuit Court of Cook County Chief Judge Timothy Evans, Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez, Cook County Public Defender A.C. Cunningham, Cook County Sheriff Thomas Dart, as well as Chief Judge Eric T. Washington from the District of Columbia’s Court of Appeals, to provide guidance in improving the criminal courts operations here.
