Candidate Statement
My name is Scott Gryder, I serve as chairman of the Kendall County Board, and I’m asking for your vote so that I can represent you in Congress.
During my tenure on the Kendall County Board, I have worked to improve our highways and public safety, protect our environment, and boost economic development. I have made it a priority to keep our community safe by working with law enforcement and our county sheriff to hold criminals accountable. I have also opposed tax hikes on Illinois families every step of the way; you deserve better than unsafe streets and high taxes.
I have worked across the aisle to get real results for my constituents, and in Washington I will do the same.
I’m running for Congress because the Illinois and America that I love is being crushed by a dysfunctional Congress. Politicians in Washington let politics get in the way of results. If entrusted to take our voices to D.C., I will roll up my sleeves and get to work.
My top three priorities in Washington are the same as I’ve always worked toward: keeping our communities safe, improving infrastructure and the economy, and lowering the cost on working families.
Ensuring our neighborhoods are safe for our children is a top priority. At a time when radical politicians, including Lauren Underwood’s closest allies, are calling to defund the police, it’s important that we support law enforcement and give them the tools they need to fight crime.
We must keep the government’s hands off of small businesses and cut taxes on Illinoisians. I’ve worked to implement this common-sense approach in Kendall County, and now Kendall leads Illinois over all other counties in growth. In Congress, I will continue this approach to growth.
We also need real solutions to our infrastructure crisis. On the Board I have supported a balanced approach to infrastructure growth, and in Congress I will support solutions that prioritize Illinoisians’ needs, not green energy pet projects.
I’m Scott Gryder, and I’m running for Congress because you deserve better. Please vote for Scott Gryder for Congress to elect someone who will fight for you.
Candidate Q&A
Why are you running?
I am running because I think Congress can, and must, do better than it has for the American people. The Pelosi-Underwood agenda has pulled America backward. For too long, politicians in DC have put insider agendas ahead of the constituents they are elected to serve.
For nearly a decade I have served on the Kendall County Board and worked everyday to improve the lives of my constituents-regardless of party. In Congress, I will work to do the same.
My commitment to my constituents is simple. In office I will: Oppose costly tax hikes and work to cut taxes, put public safety on the forefront and back the blue, and work to improve infrastructure so Illinois is ready for the 21st century.
What does this office do well, and what needs fixing?
Congress is, by far, the most dysfunctional branch of government and has abdicated everything from the creation of a budget through the appropriations process to its responsibility to the American people.
I am running to help turn our country around. Congress must address the inflation crisis facing hardworking Illinoisians by taking action to repeal regulations and red tape, and provide relief to the American people. One of my first actions in office will be to take on these challenges and work with my colleagues to get spending under control and tamp down inflationary pressures. I will also work to cut taxes and give real relief to families who have paid more for groceries, gas, electric, and everything else.
What is the most pressing issue facing your constituents and how do you plan on addressing it?
Inflation is the top issue facing constituents and Washington has done everything possible to make the situation worse. Higher costs on farmers, higher gas prices and Green New Deal policies have all pushed the cost of food, fuel, utilities on nearly everything else higher.
I will provide relief on day 1 by sponsoring legislation that repeals regulations on small farms, create a tax deduction for families who have been hit hardest by inflation, and repeal legislation that has pushed gas, electric, and utility prices through the roof so working families no longer need to choose between a gallon of milk and gas for their cars.
Tackling inflation and getting us out of a recession will be my top priority in Congress.
What specific steps would you take to ensure your office is accessible and responsive to your constituents?
I know how important it is to efficiently and effectively work on behalf of my constituents, I will do the same in Congress.
My office will:
— Have working office hours in English and Spanish in each locality in the district on a weekly basis.
— Constituent casework will be monitored and tracked to ensure that nothing falls through the cracks.
— We will also be proactive in reaching out to community groups, such as our veterans organizations, to make staff available at neighborhood fairs, festivals and with individuals to let them know what services the office provides and help wherever possible.
Constituent services are the bedrock of a well run office and are something I take extraordinarily seriously. My office will work tirelessly on behalf of those I am elected to represent.
