Background
Former President Donald Trump is running for president for the third time. Earlier this year, he made history when he became the first former U.S. president to be convicted of felony crimes; a New York jury found him guilty of all 34 charges in a hush-money payment scheme involving a porn actor. He faces two other felony indictments, including a federal election interference case and a Georgia election interference case. Trump was also indicted in a felony classified documents case, but that was dismissed in July. He chose U.S. Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) as his running mate.
Trump has long pledged to deport millions of people should he win, with a goal of carrying out the “largest deportation operation in American history.” On the campaign trail, he has touted his part in the end of federal abortion rights with the Dobbs U.S. Supreme Court decision, but he recently said he would not sign a federal abortion ban. Trump promises “to make America great again” with campaign platforms that include strengthening and modernizing the military, eliminating tax on tips and protecting the right to keep and bear arms.
