Candidate Q&A

Why are you running?

I am a Christian, Parent, Child and Community advocate. My experience as an Attorney handling civil and criminal matters in state and federal courts of Illinois, Texas, New York, Arkansas and the District of Columbia as well as my experience as a Social Worker and Teacher have prepared me to address numerous issues for people across this nation. I am capable of voicing the peoples’ concerns and providing responsive representation to the district and state residents.

What does this office do well, and what needs fixing?

As a congresswoman it would be my responsibility to make federal laws, raise and provide public funding for state and national expenditures and make determinations relative to the declaration of war with real life and death consequences.

The problems inherent in a partisan government, among others, are:
1. Blind loyalty to one's party affiliation,
2. The overwhelming selfish desire to please National Party Leaders in control of party campaign funds, and
3. Pressure from private sector interests with deep pockets seeking to direct votes of the House members.

This is all to the detriment of the general public and their specific constituents. Some of these problems can be addressed by reducing financial dependency and breaking the constant fund-raising cycle to allow congressmen to focus on the needs of their constituents independent of fear and pressure.

What is the most pressing issue facing your constituents and how do you plan on addressing it?

Pressing issues: economy (employment, wealth stability and taxation), safety, education, and health. I hope to address these issues by applying my knowledge, skills, negotiating prowess and sincere interest to bear when confronting federal matters in the House.

What specific steps would you take to ensure your office is accessible and responsive to your constituents?

I would use technical and social media tools, public staff, community resources and in person, direct contact means of communication with my constituents. I would have two Illinois based field offices as well as the Washington, D C. office open to the public for regular visitation with constituents. I would schedule attendance at community events within my district for a more personal involvement in things that matter to them. Most importantly, I would respond in a timely manner to correspondence and telephone calls hopefully with much needed solutions.
