Candidate Statement

Hello, my name is Regan Deering and I am running for Congress in the 13th (District) to help make Illinois and the United States a better place to live, work and raise a family.

As a science educator, small business owner and mother, I didn’t go looking for a political career. However, the economic downturn, failures and polarization in Washington are becoming too great to ignore and I believe it’s my duty to step up and try and represent the wants and needs of our communities.

If there’s one thing I have learned in this campaign, it’s that there’s more that connects us than divides us as Americans and Illinoisans.

I’m running to be another link in that connection, and to try and bring all members of our community together — regardless of political affiliation — to help bring more safety, security and success to the people of the 13th District.

I’ve prioritized listening, rather than talking, and learning rather than preaching, to ensure that I am open to feedback and in the best position to truly represent the composite wants and needs of the families and businesses of our district.

If elected to Congress, I will focus on introducing and supporting legislation to reduce inflation, grow our economy, and bring back manufacturing jobs to the United States and, specifically, the 13th District of Illinois.

I am passionate about strengthening food security, K-12 educational opportunities, and parenting programs for all families in our district to ensure that every child has the chance to live their American dream.

I am also committed to supporting policies that make America and Illinois more energy independent, creating and keeping good paying jobs here at home and increasing our national security by making us less dependent on foreign oil.

We’re at a pivotal time in our country and the choices we make over the next few years will determine the fate of our children and grandchildren.

I vow that as your next Congresswoman, I will go into all of these decisions with what is best for the people, rather than the politicians, as my primary focus.

Thank you for your time today, and I ask for your support and vote in November. God bless America and the great state of Illinois.

Candidate Q&A

Why are you running?

I have built a career that prioritizes high-quality education for all, investment and caring for my community, and giving back to others by serving. These experiences have given me a front-row seat to the struggles of our working families every day. People in our communities want to work hard, provide for our children, send them to great schools, and raise them in safe neighborhoods. I didn’t go looking for a political career, but today’s political environment seems to be controlled by out-of-touch elected officials more concerned with self-serving bureaucracy and I was called to step up to serve. We need common-sense leaders with real-world experience to represent our districts. Our government was founded on the idea of We the People being elected by a group of our peers to take a break from our daily life to go to capitols and share our community’s vision. I stand first and foremost for the rule of law and preserving the U.S. Constitution. We should all expect our elected leaders to work for their constituents and represent the morals, values, and unique concerns of their district, and that is why I am running for Congress.

What does this office do well, and what needs fixing?

Congressional approval, particularly over the last few years has been relatively low. Americans tend to see Congress as a group of ineffective politicians who don’t truly represent the best interest of their constituents. I plan to go to Washington to ensure we the people have a seat at the table, are clear in our directives, and advocate for our concerns in the 13th Congressional district. As an elected Congresswoman of IL 13, representing voters in all seven counties, I will be committed to listening to you regarding both your local and federal concerns. I intend to work towards creating legislation that fosters success for all and takes into consideration key stakeholders. For too long, we have moved away from elected officials representing We the People, and I want to be a statesman in service to you. I am a fiscally responsible conservative who will seek to limit government overreach and reckless spending. My attention to detail in financial budgets for my own small business and household will allow me to prioritize spending of taxpayers’ dollars and make necessary cuts where appropriate. Securing federal dollars for our district is a key responsibility of my job as your Congresswoman.

What is the most pressing issue facing your constituents and how do you plan on addressing it?

The most pressing issue facing my constituents today is the cost of living. I intend on being a Representative that’s first course of action will be to put an end to our government’s wasteful spending that is driving up inflation. I will support policies that will lower taxes and help Americans keep more of what they earn. Likewise, we need to boost small businesses that help drive our local economies. Additionally, I will work to get people back into the workforce by building up alternative training programs, certifications, and connecting employers to workforce-ready individuals.

What specific steps would you take to ensure your office is accessible and responsive to your constituents?

Constituent service and accessibility to my office will be a top priority. I will make sure my staff is equipped to run a constituent-service focused office and will have multiple satellite locations throughout the 13th district. We will prioritize calls and written communications with a short reply window to ensure desired outcomes. I intend to return to the district when not in DC to make myself available to my constituents as often as possible while balancing my commitment to my family.
