Candidate Statement

Hi, my name is Kathy Salvi.  I am a wife, mother and grandmother, an attorney who runs a small business, an advocate for Illinois women and children. And now, I am running to represent all of Illinois in Washington, D.C. as our next United States Senator.

For decades, Illinois sent a balanced delegation to represent us in the U.S. Senate. One Democrat and one Republican to represent the views and values of all Illinoisans. But today, that’s not happening. Today, our junior senator – Tammy Duckworth – votes with President Biden nearly 100% of the time.

Tammy Duckworth is a rubberstamp for the failed Biden Agenda, and we are suffering the consequences every day: Inflation at a 40 year high. Record high gas prices. Store shelves empty of even the most basic of necessities. Out of control violent crime in our streets. Parents not in charge of their children's education. An emboldened IRS with 87,000 new agents. And a foreign policy that not only embarrassed us and our allies, but emboldened our enemies.

I’m running for the United States Senate to return balance for Illinois. I will partner with whomever, Republican or Democrat, to get things done in Washington on behalf of the people of Illinois. But I will also be loud and clear in my opposition to those policies that are not in the best interest of Illinois families and businesses.

On November 8th, I am humbly asking you to vote Kathy Salvi for U.S. Senate, to ensure all of our voices are heard in Washington.

Candidate Q&A

Why are you running?

I am a mother, a grandmother, an advocate and a small businesswoman. Every day I see families and businesses struggle and the problems we are facing are too important not to take them on. Senator Duckworth votes with Joe Biden's failed agenda nearly 100% of the time. And the Biden/Duckworth agenda is failing Illinois and our country. Senator Duckworth left Illinois behind at a time we needed leadership the most. I am running to bring balance back to our delegation and represent the voices of millions of hardworking Illinois families and businesses.

What does this office do well, and what needs fixing?

U.S. Senators do a really good job of talking, but they are terrible at taking action on behalf of their constituents. It is past time that the "most exclusive club" in the world stopped pontificating and addressed the problems facing hardworking families. People are understandably not happy with what they are seeing in Washington, D.C. Who can blame them, just look at the results. Record inflation, supply shortages, surging crime, fentanyl flowing across the border — families need to know that their elected representatives are working for them, not simply rubber stamping what Joe Biden and the Washington Democrats want.

What is the most pressing issue facing your constituents and how do you plan on addressing it?

Every day, I hear from voters across Illinois about four issues.

First, they are concerned about how they are going to make ends meet at a time we are facing 40-year high rate of inflation, record high prices at the gas pump, and empty store shelves for even the most basic of goods. Anyone who has been to the grocery store recently has seen the how expensive it is just to buy eggs, if the store even has any.

Second, families do not feel safe. Violent crime rates are skyrocketing — not just in Chicago but all across Illinois. We need to support the women and men of law enforcement and not defund the police like Tammy Duckworth, Lori Lightfoot and Kim Foxx.

Third, families want to have a say in their children's education. If the COVID pandemic taught families one thing, it showed them that they need to be more involved in their children's education.

Finally, the border needs to be secured. Fentanyl smuggling and human trafficking is all too rampant at our southern border. This needs to stop immediately. These four concerns are interconnected with a feeling of insecurity about their family's future and the future of our nation, and Senator Duckworth has voted as a rubber stamp for the Biden agenda that is failing us and making things worse.

What specific steps would you take to ensure your office is accessible and responsive to your constituents?

My promise to voters is that I will visit and hold public events in all 102 Illinois counties each and every year. I will make sure every Illinoisan has an opportunity to meet me face-to-face, ask their questions, and hold me accountable. I will hold office hours in my regional offices in Illinois, and my Washington, D.C., office will be open to any Illinoisan who would like to meet with me and my staff on Capitol Hill.
