Candidate Statement

Hi, my name is Chris Dargis and I’m the Republican candidate in Illinois’ 8th Congressional District. I’m going to be blunt: Washington has left us behind. Inflation, taxation, crime and energy costs have all skyrocketed because of the policies coming out of Washington D.C., and the politicians causing these problems don't even seem to care. In the past year, we’ve all experienced the pain at the pump filling our cars, the worry for our families as our communities see rising crime, the pain at the store seeing prices continue to rise, making it harder to afford food, school supplies, medicine and other basic necessities.

I’m running for Congress because we need problem solvers in Washington looking out for the people of Illinois, not more politicians looking out for their own careers. My opponent, Raja Krishanmoorthi, has voted with Joe Biden 100% of the time. He has supported every extreme policy and every penny of the reckless spending coming out of Washington that has driven up energy costs, driven up inflation, and taken more money out of your pocket.

It’s time for a change. Over my entire life I’ve been focused on bringing people together to get the job done and achieve a common goal, first when serving our country as a Naval officer, as well as during a successful business career. I know that as your Congressman my job is to represent you, not be a rubber stamp for the politically connected. As a Naval nuclear engineer, I know we need to unleash American energy production, creating jobs and lowering costs, while investing in clean, safe, reliable energy sources like nuclear to power our future. We need to cut spending, reduce the tax burden on Illinois families, and put a stop to the reckless policies that have driven inflation to 40-year highs, hurting everyone but especially our senior citizens.

I’m Chris Dargis, the Republican candidate in Illinois’ 8th Congressional District, and I humbly ask for your vote on November 8th.

Candidate Q&A

Why are you running?

I’m running because Illinois families are being left behind by Washington Politicians. We’re facing unprecedented inflation raising prices across the board, an epidemic of crime making our communities less safe, and our representatives in Washington just don’t care. We need problem solvers in Washington, not politicians focused on partisan bickering and building their political careers. I grew up in this district, and know that the people here need help. I served in the Navy as a nuclear engineer and built a successful business career as a problem solver, bringing people from all walks of life together with a common goal. That’s the mentality I will bring to Congress: someone who will work with anyone to get the job done for the people of the 8th Congressional district. We’ve seen what happens when politicians go to Washington, so let’s change it by sending a problem solver.

What does this office do well, and what needs fixing?

A Congressman should work to solve the problems facing his or her district, putting country ahead of partisanship and people ahead of political interests. Raja Krishnamoorthi, our current representative, instead plays politics and focuses on his own political career. Instead of coming back to the district when Congress entered recess and hearing from his constituents about the economic challenges his policies have created, he jetsets around the globe with Nancy Pelosi. Which leads me to what needs to be fixed: this office needs to focus on what is happening here in the district. We have senior citizens on fixed incomes forced by rising prices to choose between food and medication. We have families filling their gas tanks halfway so they can afford groceries at the end of the week. Instead, Raja is holding hearings on UFOs and the Washington Football Team. Let’s focus on the challenges our families are facing instead of building goodwill with Nancy Pelosi to advance a political career.

What is the most pressing issue facing your constituents and how do you plan on addressing it?

The crippling inflation and skyrocketing energy costs our families are facing are creating an economic climate making it difficult to make ends meet. First, we need to unleash our energy potential. Just two years ago, the United States was a net energy exporter. President Biden, supported by Raja Krishnamoorthi, killed that potential, leading to our nation’s dependence on foreign despotic regimes like Venezuela to supply our fuel. We need an all-of-the-above approach to build our strategic reserves, reduce costs in the short term, and look to the future by investing in clean, scalable, and reliable energy sources like nuclear power. Next, we need to stop reckless tax and spend policies. Just in the last month, Biden and Krishnamoorthi celebrated $1.3 trillion dollars in new spending and raised taxes, policies that even Democratic economists have said will make our inflationary pressures even stronger.

What specific steps would you take to ensure your office is accessible and responsive to your constituents?

First and foremost, my office would be open. Last time I visited Congressman Krishnaoorthi’s district office, it was locked up tight. The people of this district deserve a representative who has the common decency to be open and hear their concerns. I would welcome these conversations with constituents, holding open office hours when Congress is not in session and communicating openly with our communities.
