Candidate Statement
Hi, my name is Mark Curran, I’m a Republican candidate for United States Senate.
I’ve been married to Irene for 24 years and I have three wonderful boys.
Americans have seen an erosion of liberty for many years now. I’m running to defend your liberty.
The Constitution and the Bill of Rights are under attack. I am the candidate best suited to defend your liberty.
I was the Lake County, IL sheriff from 2006 until 2018.
As sheriff, I came in under budget 12 years in a row, transformed an office that was in crisis, and always remembered that I was elected to serve the public, not myself.
Before my time as sheriff, I served as a county, state and federal prosecutor where I fought on behalf of victims all across the state.
I’ve also taught constitutional law and am uniquely qualified to fight for and to protect your rights as your senator.
I am part of the forgotten middle class and that’s who I’ll be fighting for.
Sen. Dick Durbin is a career politician beholden to lobbyists, special interests and the D.C. donor class.
Durbin has failed Illinois after 37 years. He voted for giving China tariff breaks that even our unions didn’t support. He voted for the middle class, job-killing NAFTA. He voted for Obamacare that destroyed rural hospitals here in Illinois.
Under his tenure, Illinois citizens are being left behind. Many small businesses and small towns have been decimated.
Dick Durbin is more concerned with appeasing the far-left fringe in his party than he is fighting for you. As you senator, I will fight for the middle class.The little guy and those forgotten by Senator Durbin.
I think Illinois is worth fighting for. I want to see liberty, justice and opportunity for all.

Why are you running?
I am running because I cannot stand by while I witness our very way of life come under attack. Our Constitution and Bill of Rights are under direct assault from the increasingly radical and progressive Democratic Party. To put it simply, I’m running to protect your liberty and to defend the Constitution. For nearly 38 years, Dick Durbin has been in Washington, D.C. You need to ask yourself if you’re freer now than you were when Dick Durbin first made his way to Capitol Hill. History has proven that you’re not. I’m running to change that.
What is your vision for this office?
To restore integrity to the office, to be a U.S. Senator for all of Illinois, not just Chicago, and to put the people’s interests before partisan interests. Because Dick Durbin has proven himself to be a staunch Democrat, putting political and partisan interests before those of his constituents. And that isn’t right for the people of Illinois, the future of our state or the future of our country.
What do you think is the most pressing issue facing your constituents and how do you plan on addressing it?
The cost of living and the economy. Our state is lagging behind the rest of the country. The Trump Economy has seen record job and stock market growth, as well as the lowest unemployment in decades and none of that is reflected in Illinois. Dick Durbin and the policies he supports stand in direct contrast to the Trump Economy. The regulation, taxation, and burdensome litigation supported by Durbin is what has negatively impacted the people of Illinois for decades. It’s time for a change.
