Candidate for Chicago City Council

Candidate Statement

My name is Alderman Howard B Brookins Jr., and I am running for alderman of the 21st Ward of Chicago.

When I first ran for office I said if you vote for me I would fight for you; and we have.

We fought for quality housing, better schools, safer neighborhoods, jobs and a community that we could be proud of and we won.

During our terms in office:

We have built new, single family homes, senior centers, a veteran home and quality affordable housing.

We have 9 level 1 schools, saved Mahalia Jackson from closing, built a new playground at Cook School, a new football fields for Simeon, a new Noble Hansberry, and have invested 10s of millions of dollars in renovations to schools throughout the ward.

We have increased the budget for more police officers, received more than 100 additional officers patrolling ward, and experienced a 20% decrease in crime.

We attracted major companies and thousands of quality jobs permanent and construction jobs to the ward.

We prevented the ward from becoming a food desert with the addition of Walmart, Food 4 Less.

We made it convenient for you to bank in your community with the addition of Bank of America, BMO Harris, Chase and 5/3.

And we made it easy to stay and play in your community with the addition of Wild Blossom winery, Studio Movie Grill, Chipotle, Starbucks and Jameson’s Soul Food.

On Feb 26 you can make a choice to remain with the person who has continued to deliver for 21st ward, or take a chance on one of the other candidates who have been running for alderman for a combined 9 times. The choice is clear. Please vote to re-elect me Howard B Brookins, Jr. Thank you.
