Candidate Q&A
Why are you running?
I am running for a 2nd time because the 24th Ward is in urgent need of new leadership.
What does this office do well, and what needs fixing?
It does well at being invisible....the entire administration needs to be replaced.
What is the most pressing issue facing your constituents and how do you plan on addressing it?
Violence. By creating employment opportunities within our ward which assists with producing a better quality of life which will reduce crime and violence.
What specific steps would you take to ensure your office is accessible and responsive to your constituents?
Actually answer/return calls and emails, literally be visible in the community by making it routine to visit each precinct each month and hold ward superintendants accountable.
Do you believe in the tradition of aldermanic prerogative, which gives each City Council member the final say on issues in their ward?
No the final say should be from the constituents.
Should the $1.9 billion budget for the Chicago Police Department increase, stay the same or decrease?
Decrease the budget, its not using the funds effectively or equitably and not delivering results for public safety.
Should the city raise the Real Estate Transfer Tax on properties sold for more than $1 million to fund programs to help unhoused Chicagoans?
Yes, the homelessness rate in the 24th Ward is extremely high as it is throughout the city. Any way that is reasonable to assist with funding unhoused Chicagoans should be reviewed.
Should the city open and operate mental health clinics to provide free care to Chicagoans?
Yes mental health is real and needs to be addressed with the proper funding and clinics to ensure the well beings of the residents in the city.
How should Chicago build the 120,000 homes it needs for low- and moderate-income Chicagoans?
One way would be to enforce the anti-deconversion ordinance making it harder for developers to continue to buy buildings with multiple apartments and convert them into expensive single family homes.
What do you see as potential solutions to address the number of shootings in Chicago?
Intervene the gun trafficking, fund mental health clinics, address the youth crisis, create employment opportunities are a few solutions to address the shootings.
How will you ensure that the industrial complex set to be built at Roosevelt Road and Kostner Avenue does not increase traffic, noise and air pollution?
Implement a well planned strategy with the needed specialists to avoid any type of disturbance or health hazards to the residents.
Should Douglass Park continue to host large music festivals?
The majority of the residents in the 24th Ward are not in support of the large music fests that take place at Douglass Park, there is no inclusion of the residents in the ward as far as participants, job opportunities, excessive loitering, and most of all no survey from the residents concerning the support of the music festivals. So if the majority of the community is not in favor then the music festivals should not take place.
