Joseph R. Biden Jr.

Candidate for President

Background

President Joe Biden is running for reelection on a platform to defend American democracy from former President Donald Trump and to “restore the soul of America.” At home, Biden's administration steered the country away from a recession with the passage of the massive bipartisan economic stimulus and infrastructure package, but consumers felt the pinch from the highest inflation in decades. One of the biggest issues on the campaign trail for Biden and the Democratic party has been the loss of Roe v. Wade and the proliferation of abortion bans across the country in the wake of the Dobbs U.S. Supreme Court decision. Abroad, Biden continues to support Ukraine in its battle with Russia and Israel in the fight against Hamas terrorists in Gaza. However, some Democrats are pushing back over the bloodshed in the Palestinian territory and are demanding the president call for a cease-fire. Biden is also facing criticism over the immigration crisis as migrant crossings at the U.S.-Mexico border hit record highs during his tenure.
