Candidate Statement

My name is Walt Peters and I am running for Congress in the 16th District.  I am not a politician.  I am an engineer, but more importantly, like you, I am a citizen of northern Illinois. We are builders and workers.  We are farmers that feed the world. We are creators of value and wealth.

America, and thus Americans, have enjoyed the greatest standard of living in the world.  That standard of living did not happen by accident. It was created by a free and industrious American people coupled with the right to private property and economic capitalism. That is the bedrock upon which the foundation of America sits and it is a truth that once again needs to be taught in the schools and revered in Washington.

To that end, I will work:

•To stop the DOJ-FBI interference in parents' rights to determine what is taught in their children’s schools
•To reign in government spending and its ensuing taxation when funded and Inflation when unfunded
•To stop Government overreach and its subsequent regulatory costs to business and Infringements on our Freedom
•To stop the attack on Free Speech by working to break-up the Social Media Companies
•To break-up the education-media Complex and support a diversity of thought not echo-chamber Speech
•To protect the Right to Life
•To protect Individual Rights – The right to bear arms, freedom of speech and freedom of religion

It is time that we again recognize that America is the land of opportunity.  That America’s success is based on a constitutional system of government that protects the rights of its citizens and rewards them for individual creativity, initiative, and hard work. Those are my values and I believe those are the values of the citizens of northern Illinois.  Together we can make those the values by which America is governed.  With your support, I can go to Washington and work to bring about those changes.  Together we can once again make America work for its citizens.

Candidate Q&A

Why are you running?

To give voice to the values of Northern Illinois' citizens in Washington.

What does this office do well, and what needs fixing?

The 16th congressional district needs a representative that will articulate the values of northern Illinois.  This includes creativity, initiative and constitutional freedoms that are the essence of the creation of wealth and a better standard of living for all citizens.

What is the most pressing issue facing your constituents and how do you plan on addressing it?

Government overreach and its subsequent regulatory cost to business, infringement on our freedoms, and devastating impact on individual initiative.  I will work to reign in government spending and the controls and restrictions to our freedoms that go with that spending.

What specific steps would you take to ensure your office is accessible and responsive to your constituents?

Keep the office door open. Figuratively and literally. Listening to all points of view is essential in all aspects of the decision-making process.
