Candidate Statement

Hello!  My name is Paul Schimpf and I am running for Illinois Governor because our state needs “Commonsense Conservative Leadership We Can Trust.”

We have a primary this year for the Illinois Republican Governor—and that is a good thing.  We’re all on the same team and having multiple campaigns spread the word that JB Pritzker is not deserving of reelection.

Here are three reasons why you should support me for Illinois Governor:

First, you don’t have to guess about where I stand on the issues. I was an Illinois State Senator from 2017 to 2021. I have a conservative voting record. I voted for limited government, a strong second amendment, I voted against every tax increase that crossed my desk and I also voted for the rights of parents and local elected officials to control their childrens’ education.

Second, the Illinois Governor has international responsibilities. I am the only Republican candidate who has experience on the national stage. I represented the Department of Defense in international environment and energy negotiations. I also was the lead American Attorney-Advisor in the trial of Saddam Hussein in Iraq.

Third and finally, I am the only Republican candidate running for Illinois Governor who has decisively won a major race against a Democrat.  In 2016, I ran for the Illinois Senate against former Lieutenant Governor Sheila Simon.  Despite being outspent by over $300,000, we won that race by almost 22 points.  I have been thoroughly vetted and I know how to win elections.

We win against the Democrats by talking about the issues that unite us.  That’s why my running mate Carolyn Schofield and I have proposed a “New Start for Illinois” policy agenda and an “Illinois Parents Bill of Rights” and I urge you to check them out on our website.

Thanks for watching this video and I look forward to earning your vote on June 28.

Candidate Q&A

Why are you running?

Illinois needs commonsense conservative leadership we can trust.

What does this office do well, and what needs fixing?

The Illinois Governor's office needs to cooperate more with the legislature and not govern via administrative rule or executive orders. The Illinois Governor should also insist on transparency in the legislative process and not sign any legislation that is not passed in a transparent manner.

What is the most pressing issue facing your constituents and how do you plan on addressing it?

The most pressing issue our state faces is population loss -- we cannot solve any of our long term fiscal challenges until Illinois becomes a state where people want to raise their families and grow their businesses. As governor, I will end the administrative overreach from our state agencies and make Illinois more business-friendly, respecting the constitutional freedoms of our citizens.

What specific steps would you take to ensure your office is accessible and responsive to your constituents?

The Illinois Governor needs to represent and serve all the people of Illinois -- even the ones who disagree with him politically. I will refrain from using the divisive, incendiary rhetoric that is becoming all too prevalent in our political discourse today. Having dealt with an evil, tyrannical dictator when I worked the trial of Saddam Hussein in Iraq, I am not willing to use that type of language to describe my fellow Illinoisans.
