Candidate for Chicago City Council

Candidate Statement

Hi, I’m Jim Gardiner and I am running for Alderman of the 45th Ward.

For close to 40 years, I have called the 45th Ward home, still living on the same block where I was raised.

I am the youngest of seven children, born to immigrant parents who moved to Chicago in hopes of building a brighter future. Chicago opened its arms and embraced my family, and is the motivating factor as to why I have chosen to dedicate my life to serving our city.

As a coach, mentor, special education teacher, and fire fighter, I have made a lifelong commitment to public service.

After knocking on over 10,000 doors, I have gained a better understanding of how important it is to have a leader who is willing to listen to all constituents. It is time for your voices to be heard.

My experience as a first responder will play a vital role as I work collectively with Police Officers to help address the steady rise in crime. I will be an ally to the Police Department and help rebuild the broken relationships between law enforcement and the Alderman.

My experience as a Chicago Public School teacher has given me the opportunity to be well aware of the issues that most affect our schools. Having an Alderman within the City Council who will be an advocate for students and teachers is key to our community’s success.

I will address the empty storefronts by attracting small businesses to our community which will allow us to shop locally for our everyday needs.

Lastly, I will ensure we begin receiving the city services that our hard earned tax dollars pay for, but too often get overlooked.

As Alderman of the 45th Ward, I will do everything in my power to proudly serve our community. I humbly ask for your vote.

Thank you!
