Candidate Q&A

Why are you running?

I am running for a seat to serve! I have served consistently for years connecting with school leaders and teachers to bring resources, inspiration and hope to our local schools. I would love to use my experience and voice to continue and broaden this work.

Are you in support of the most recent CPS budget that relies on uncommitted state funding?

No

How will you work with CPS officials and staff to balance the district’s budget?

Find new sources of revenue, and capitalizing on resources already held.

Other than the budget, what is the single biggest issue facing Chicago Public Schools?

Declining enrollment

What is a top issue for students, schools and families in your specific school board voting district?

Student achievement

If you accept campaign contributions from special interest groups, how will you maintain independence from those donors?

I am an independent candidate who has served supporting students for decades. My campaign is not predicated on funding from special interest groups.

How can current board policies and procedures be improved?

Stronger communication and connection to the community at large.

How should CPS and the board work to address declining enrollment?

Better and newer community schools and consolidation.

Do you foresee a need to close some district schools?

Those decisions should be on a case by case basis. The district must first do a better job of liquidating its portfolio of schools closed over a decade ago.

Should CPS implement AI in its classrooms? What, if any, guardrails should be put in place?

Yes, we need very strict guidelines and procedures crafted to insure no harm is done to or by students.

The board currently includes one Honorary Student Member. As the board has recently tripled in size, should that number be expanded?

Yes by all means.

How will you be responsive to student-led issues?

Regular communications and personal visits to various school leaders within the district.
