Major retail bookseller Barnes & Noble plans to open five new locations in the Chicago area this year, including at the iconic former-bank-turned-former-Walgreens in Wicker Park.
The two locations in the city, which plan to open this summer, will be located at 651 W. Diversey Parkway in Lincoln Park and 1601 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Wicker Park.
“Barnes & Noble is experiencing a period of tremendous growth right now and we are opening stores across the country,” Barnes & Noble spokesperson Janine Flanigan said in a statement.
The other planned locations include Prairie Market Shopping Center in Oswego in the spring and Village Square of Northbrook in the summer. Another location is also planned in the fall for Town Square Shopping Center in Schererville, Indiana, in the northwest region of the state.
The new Barnes & Noble locations were first reported by Crain’s Chicago Business.
There are currently no standalone Barnes & Noble locations in Chicago (withholding the Barnes & Noble DePaul University college bookstore location). Last year, the city’s longtime location at Clybourn and Webster avenues in Lincoln Park closed after the store’s lease ended.
The retail bookseller has other Chicago-area locations in Skokie, Oakbrook, Old Orchard, Bolingbrook, Orland Park and more.
