Concert at Salt Shed Features Songs Written During the Holocaust: ‘They’re Telling the Stories of Their Lives’

“‘We Are Here’: Songs From The Holocaust” is a concert event that features song lyrics written in concentration camps and ghettos during the Holocaust.

The lyrics take on new life with new music and will be performed at the Salt Shed, 1357 N. Elston Ave., at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6, by a collection of actors, musicians and local news people, including “Chicago Tonight” co-host Paris Schutz.

“They’re telling the stories of their lives during these horrific times,” said Ira Antelis, who created the production.

Music is a universal language to Antelis — and that’s why the event is bringing performers and presenters from such different backgrounds. He pointed to Adam Jacobs, who starred as Aladdin on Broadway, and Justin Jesso, the singer and songwriter from Highland Park.

“It’s about bringing people together,” Antelis said.
