How hot was it on Tuesday? It was so hot, Chicago notched a record temperature for June 2, according to data from the National Weather Service.
The mercury soared to 94 degrees at 5:34 p.m. at O’Hare, topping the previous record of 92 degrees for the date set back in 1944.
Temperatures above 90 degrees are relatively rare in Chicago, data shows. Normally only 14 days a year reach 90 degrees or higher.
Digging into the record books, the 1950s look to have been an uncommonly hot decade. In terms of years with the most 90-degree days or above, the ‘50s hold four of the top five slots. The 46 days recorded in 1955 are topped only by 47 in 1988.
On the flip side, the record for lowest temperature on June 2 is 38 degrees, set in 2003.
