No April Fools” is trending in the U.S. on Twitter, along with #aprilfoolscancelled, as the nation apparently has collectively decided it’s not in the mood to have its leg pulled.

As one person succinctly summed up on social media: “We don’t need no April fools jokes … we living in one.”

As an alternative, people are being encouraged to take part in National Walking Day, which, who knew, takes place the first Wednesday in April every year.

Millions of Americans have rediscovered the simple pleasure of walking during the coronavirus shutdown, and Chicagoans have been no exception. So get out there and celebrate, responsibly, and at a distance.

You know who is watching.
