It’s going to be an uncharacteristically subdued St. Patrick’s Day in Chicago, with bars and restaurants closed for all but delivery and takeout, and large gatherings nixed due to concerns about the spread of the coronavirus.
So people are getting creative when it comes to finding ways to celebrate together, alone.
A neighbor in Bucktown had the idea for a shamrock hunt, asking folks to hang a shamrock in their window on March 17. Anyone out for a stroll on St. Patrick’s Day can entertain themselves with a search for the lucky charms and share photos. It’s kind of like a community Easter egg hunt, minus any crowds, and also a way to keep kiddos busy.
Someone in Lincoln Square borrowed the concept, shared it on Facebook, and now dozens of people in that neighborhood have committed to hanging shamrocks too.
Who else is joining in? (We confirmed with a medical expert that being outdoors is fine for healthy people as long as folks don’t gather in groups. Going for a walk with your partner and/or children is OK.)
