Political ads have been flooding the airways for months in the race for Cook County state’s attorney. And they have been getting increasingly nasty.

The incumbent, Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx, has been under fire for her handling of the Jussie Smollett case. And up-and-coming challenger Bill Conway is being accused of trying to buy the office with millions of dollars given to him by his father.

The two other candidates vying to unseat Foxx aren’t as well-funded and don’t have the same ability to run frequent ads.

The Cook County state’s attorney leads an office of more than 700 attorneys and is the second largest prosecutor’s office in the nation. It is responsible for the prosecution of all misdemeanor and felony crimes committed in Cook County. Watch our GOP candidate forum for this office here.

Kim Foxx, the incumbent Cook County state’s attorney who previously served as an assistant state’s attorney and the chief of staff for Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle.

Bill Conway, a former Cook County assistant state’s attorney and Navy Intelligence Officer who currently runs an investment fund for his family, teaches finance at DePaul University and serves as a pro bono Criminal Defense Attorney.

Donna More is a former assistant Cook County state’s attorney and assistant U.S. attorney who is now an attorney in private practice. More ran unsuccessfully in 2016 for state’s attorney.

Bob Fioretti is a two-term former alderman and two-time unsuccessful candidate for mayor. Fioretti also ran unsuccessfully for Cook County Board president and state senate. He is a civil rights attorney.
