World’s Largest Starbucks Set to Open Friday in Chicago

Starbucks will open its largest coffeehouse in the world in Chicago this week.

The Reserve Roastery will span five floors and 35,000 square feet on Michigan Avenue, taking up residence in what was for decades Crate & Barrel’s flagship store.

In a statement, company said the new Starbucks outpost will be a “multi-sensory experience” that “pays tribute to Chicago, where Starbucks opened its first location outside of the Pacific Northwest in 1987.”

Chicago become one of six cities in the world to have a Reserve Roastery, the company said. Locations are currently open in Seattle, New York, Tokyo, Shanghai and Milan.

The new mega-coffeehouse at 646 N. Michigan Ave. opens to the public at 9 a.m. Friday.
