Amazon is roughly doubling the number of employees in its Chicago Loop office, adding 400 new jobs and 70,000 square feet of new space. But these aren’t warehouse jobs we’re talking about – they’re new hires that will work in fields including cloud computing, advertising and business development.

There are currently more than 400 people working in Amazon’s Chicago office at 227 W. Monroe St. supporting the company’s web services, advertising, transportation and operations units.

The new Chicago jobs are among more than 30,000 positions Amazon is working to fill nationwide.

After years of legal battles, United Airlines and Expedia have reached a deal to continue online ticket sales. The agreement ends a standoff in which the airline had threatened to withdraw from one of the internet’s largest travel sellers.

United, which had said it would withhold fare data from Expedia starting Sept. 30, disclosed last week that the two parties were discussing a new contract. The new deal announced Monday covers an undisclosed period of time.

Airlines and ticket sellers have tussled for years over distribution costs as airlines have sought to sell more of their own tickets directly to customers.

And Chicago-based Cresco Labs, one of the leaders in the growing cannabis industry, announced Monday plans to acquire a company which owns, among other things, the busiest marijuana dispensary in Las Vegas. Cresco is paying $227 million in stock and $55 million in cash to purchase Tryke Companies, dramatically expanding its presence in Nevada, one of the fastest-growing recreational-marijuana markets in the country.
