Historian Rick Atkinson Tells Gripping Story of America’s Founding

Award-winning historian and former journalist Rick Atkinson spent 15 years researching and writing his highly acclaimed World War II Liberation Trilogy books.

Now he’s turned his gaze to another historical trilogy, this one on the Revolutionary War. The first volume, out now, is called “The British Are Coming: The War for America. Lexington to Princeton, 1775 to 1777.”

“The Revolution has had a grip on my imagination since I was a kid,” Atkinson said. “It tells us who we are, where we came from, what our forebears believed and really the most profound question any people can ask themselves: what they were willing to die for.

“So I just decided that the time was right to do a battle history of our first war, which is also our creation story.”

Atkinson earned the Pulitzer Prize three times for his work at the Washington Post, where he worked for a quarter century, and as a historian.
