Chicago police issued a community alert Friday morning, days after a 31-year-old woman reported that she had been grabbed and assaulted while she was walking southbound on the 6600 block of North Clark Street.

The incident occurred around 6:40 p.m. Wednesday evening. The victim told investigators the attacker approached her from behind, grabbed her and put his hand over her face covering her nose and mouth. She said the man’s hand was wet and smelled “similar to alcohol.”

The woman fell unconscious and awoke later alone in an unknown building after she had been sexually assaulted, according to police.

The offender, who is described only as a possibly black or Hispanic man, fled from the scene and has not been apprehended.

Police are telling residents to be aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious people loitering in the area.

Anyone with information about the suspect or assault is asked to contact the Area North Bureau of Detectives at 312-744-8261.
