One of Chicago’s leading and historic institutions has undergone a partial makeover just in time to commemorate the year 1893. That’s not only the year that the Newberry Library inaugurated the building that remains its home, but also the year the World’s Columbian Exposition opened its gates to the world.
The Newberry – an independent research library with collections of rare books, maps, manuscripts and more – is showcasing itself, and the exposition, in a renovated space designed to welcome even more visitors.
“Pictures from an Exposition: Visualizing the 1893 World’s Fair” is free and open to the public and will be on display at the Newberry Library from Sept. 28 through Dec. 31.
