Mayoral Candidate Willie Wilson

Speaking to supporters at a campaign event Thursday morning, Willie Wilson told Chicago’s current leader that his time in office is numbered.

“Mr. Mayor, you have less than 40 days to do what you got to do,” he said.

After that, Wilson thinks he’ll be occupying the office on the fifth floor of Chicago’s City Hall.

Wilson is one of the challengers to incumbent Mayor Rahm Emanuel, who tried to get Wilson booted off the ballot before dropping the effort late last month. The businessman, philanthropist, and gospel TV producer has put $1 million of his own money into his campaign. It’s not clear whether that cash will help him take down Emanuel, who’s become far less popular over his four years in office, but has still raised a reported $11 million in campaign funds.

Wilson joins us to talk about his background, why he wants to be mayor, and whether he thinks he has enough support to win.

Early voting begins Feb. 9. Election day is Feb. 24.
