First Day of RNC Canceled Due to Storm Threat

The first day of the Republican National Convention was canceled Saturday because of the approaching threat of Tropical Storm Isaac. Party officials made the decision after consulting Gov. Rick Scott and others.

"Our first priority is ensuring the safety of delegates, alternates, guests, members of the media attending the Republican National Convention, and citizens of the Tampa Bay area," party chairman Reince Priebus said in an e-mailed announcement.
