Charles James: Genius Deconstructed
One of the few American fashion designers to have worked in the tradition of haute couture, Charles James was famous for his intuitive art and technical prowess. Charles James: Genius Deconstructed explored his body of work and its relevance to the fashion world today. The exhibition features 15 of James’ designs from 1928 – 1958 and will run through April 16‚ 2012. Learn more about the exhibition. General admission is $14 for adults, $12 for seniors and students, and free for children under 12 years of age. Prices include audio tours.

Elmhurst College Art Collection
An extensive collection of works by Chicago Imagist and Abstractionist artists…in a suburban college? That’s right. The Elmhurst College Art Collection contains a striking expanse of artwork from area artists from the 1950s to the present day. Featuring a wide range of artistic influences, the collection dates back to 1971, when the college received funding to purchase art for A.C. Buehler Library. Vincentennial: A Halloween Tribute to Vincent Price
Come celebrate the master of horror’s 100th birthday with multiple screenings of some of Vincent Price’s most famous films. Watch a double feature of The House on Haunted Hill and The Last Man on Earth, and stay for a presentation by Vincent Price’s daughter, Victoria Price. The event will also feature giveaways, a memorabilia sale, free autograph and photo sessions with Victoria Price, plus a charity auction. Don’t forget to dress up as your favorite Vincent Price character for a chance to win a prize! Admission ranges from $13 for presale, and $15 at the door.

Uptown Poetry Slam
If you go to one poetry slam in your life, this is it. The founder of the national poetry slam movement, Marc Smith, has been running this poetry event for more than two decades. Each week, Smith hosts a poetry-filled night, complete with open mic, featured guest performance, culminating in a poetry slam competition. Admission is $6.

Supernatural Chicago
What’s more perfect for a fright night than one of the most haunted places in Chicago? Every Friday and Saturday night in October, Excalibur Nightclub plays (ghost) host to a one-man show starring “necromancer” Neil Tobin, exploring Chicago's purportedly paranormal history. Tobin’s performance is a spooky blend of storytelling, audience demonstrations and psychic magic. Tickets are $25 and include two drinks. Reservations are recommended.
